Matt Dunigan
Above all else, Matt Dunigan is a family guy. Nothing is more important to him than his wife Kathy and his 3 kids (Dane, Madison & Dolan). After that, Matt’s a Football Legend, a Television Ubiquity and a Barbecue God.
Born in Ohio, the Dunigan family moved to Dallas when Matt was 6 years old where he quickly learned that Texans are fanatic about 2 things: football and barbecue. And so Matt Dunigan’s path in life was set.
“When you grow up in Texas and Louisiana, you get a serious education in barbecue…its how everyone cooks all the time and they get pretty pernickety about barbecue do’s and don’ts. Down there of course its pretty much all slow cooking over low heat. Little did I know barbecue would be such a big part of my life down the road”.
Attending Louisiana Technical University on a full athletic scholarship, Dunigan set numerous records (breaking Terry Bradshaw’s along the way) as quarterback for the Tech Bulldogs. From there his football career continued as a star quarterback in the CFL from 1983-1996. Matt Dunigan put up the numbers (44,000 passing yards, 850 rushes for 5031 yards and 77 touchdowns). To this day he holds the CFL record for total yards in a single game with 713. Along the way, Matt led his team to two Grey Cup victories (1987 – Edmonton Eskimos, 1991 – Toronto Argonauts) and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
In 2006 (on a dare from his wife Kathy) Matt put his name forward as the potential host of a new barbecue series. Eventually besting more than 400 applicants, Matt Dunigan is the face, heart and soul of ROAD GRILL, the smash hit barbecue series produced by Knight Enterprises (www.knight-tv.com) for Food Network Canada (www.foodtv.ca). The series will premiere on May 19th and production continues on Season 2. Look for the ROAD GRILL cookbook in all major bookstores this spring.
If that wasn’t enough, Matt continues double duty as a Football Analyst for TSN, home to all CFL broadcasts in 2008 and beyond.
Matt now lives in the greater Toronto area with his family, including Roxy & Rudy (the dogs), Jack & Addie (the cats).
