Rota and his father travelled across the globe throughout his childhood. Rota then worked in the restaurant business with his father until he decided to join the film industry. He appeared in quite a few popular television series and films, including Little Mosque on the Prairie, 24, Nikita, Queer as Folk and Boondock Saints.

Rota’s experience in the culinary industry made him the perfect fit to host The Edible Roadshow, where he traveled across Canada to find the country’s best cuisine. In 2001, Rota was nominated for a Gemini Award for best host. He was also nominated the James Beard Award for excellence in culinary journalism.
