INTERESTING CHUTNEY FACT: the word is derived from ancient Sanskrit and means “lick”
There are an uncountable variety of chutneys (as there are say, mustards) but everyone agrees it’s a condiment that can either make things hotter, cooler, fruitier, smoother, etc. In Indian cuisine a number of chutneys are offered at the table to suit individual palates and the “family style” service.
This one we came up with is smooth and cool thanks to the yogurt and mint. For you cilantro-phobes try making this with parsley instead
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup packed fresh mint leaves (125ml)
- 1/2 cup packed fresh cilantro (125ml)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (15ml)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger (7.5ml)
- 1 green chili, minced veins and seeds removed
- ½ cup yogurt (125ml)
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Place all of the ingredients into a small mini chopper or blender and mix.
- Pour into a bowl and serve with Pakora or your favorite flat bread.
Makes 1.5 cups of Dip
