Trout Tacos with Crispy Rice Recipe
This trout tacos with crispy rice recipe combines smoky grilled trout with a crunchy, spiced rice base and bright tomatillo sauce for a bold and flavour-packed taco experience. Featured on Fish the Dish, this elevated taco recipe delivers the perfect balance of heat, texture, and freshness in every bite.
The Inspiration
Fish tacos are a beloved staple of coastal cuisine, typically featuring battered white fish tucked into soft tortillas with fresh toppings and sauce. While delicious in their simplicity, this recipe takes a more elevated and textural approach by reimagining the structure of the taco itself.
Instead of relying on a soft base, this dish introduces crispy fried rice as the foundation, adding crunch, depth, and a satisfying contrast to the tender fish. Inspired by bold street food flavours and layered textures, the goal is to create a taco that feels both familiar and excitingly different.
The trout is seasoned with smoky spices like cumin, paprika, and chili powder, then grilled to develop a lightly charred exterior while keeping the inside moist and flaky. Tomatillo sauce adds brightness and acidity, cutting through the richness of the fish and crispy rice.
