Basic Pizza Dough
Ingredients:
2 ½ teaspoons (12ml) dried yeast
½ teaspoon (3ml) sugar
3 1/3 cups (800ml) flour, plus extra for rolling
1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
1 cup (240ml) lukewarm water
Method:
Mix yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Add the water.
Stir and cover with a towel for 30 minutes.
Sift flour with salt into a large mixing bowl, and form a hole in the center.
Add the yeast mixture, and knead together until is dough is smooth.
If more water is needed, slowly add some until you reach a nice consistency.
Shape dough into a ball and dust with extra flour so it doesn’t stick.
Let the dough sit at room temperature for 1 hour.
The dough should have doubled in volume.
Pizza
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
Pizza Dough
Flour, for dusting
4 tomatoes, peeled and chopped
1 ball mozzarella cheese
4 marinated anchovy fillets, drained and chopped
4 fresh basil leaves, torn
Method:
Preheat oven to 420 degrees.
Brush a baking sheet with olive oil.
Dust counter, and rolling pin if you are using one, and roll out the pizza dough to your desired size and thickness.
Make small grooves in the dough using your fingertips, and place dough on baking sheet.
Spread tomatoes, anchovies and mozzarella evenly over the dough and drizzle with olive oil.
Place in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
Remove from the oven once the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Slice, garnish with torn basil leaves and serve hot.
