Basic Hamburger
Preparation time is 15 minutes.
Ease of preparation is easy.
Yield: (6) 6-ounce patties or (9) 4-ounce patties
Ingredients
- 1 small finely chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 2 pounds lean ground beef (extra lean ground beef will make a very dry hamburger)
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup to 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
Directions
- Sauté onion in canola oil until just done and chill.
- Mix all of the above ingredients, adding bread crumbs gradually until you have a mixture that will hold together, without being too dry.
- Scoop patties by using a ladle as a measure (4 ounces to 6 ounces). When forming the patty make sure that the centre of the patty is shallow and the outside is thicker. Since patties will shrink during barbequing this will ensure that the patty remains even once cooked.
- Barbecue over medium to high heat for 5 to 7 minutes each side. Serve on buttered toasted buns with your favourite topping.
