Ingredients
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 5 pounds plum tomatoes, seeded and chopped
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup chopped fresh basil
- Salt and pepper
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 400F
- Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over a medium high heat till hot but not smoking
- Add the garlic and onion and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the onion has become translucent but not browned
- Add the sugar and half the basil and sauté for 1 minute longer, stirring
- Add the tomatoes and stir some more. Transfer the sauce to the oven and cook for 40 minutes
- Remove from the oven and stir in the rest of the basil. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper
