Ease of Preparation: Easy
Yield: 4 Burgers
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cups (320 ml) mayonnaise
1 tablespoon (15 ml) smoked paprika
1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
Juice of 2 limes
Burger
1 egg
1 pound (454 g) ground turkey
1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
½ cup (120 ml) breadcrumbs
3 tablespoons (45 ml) olive oil, divided
½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) salt
¼ teaspoon (1 ml) pepper
Toppings
4 ounces (114 g) old cheddar cheese, cut into slices
Half a red onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil
4 Italian hamburger buns
Method:
Preheat oven to 350 F (175 C).
For the smoked paprika mayo, whisk together mayonnaise, smoked paprika, salt, and lime juice in a bowl. Set aside.
For the burgers, crack egg into a large bowl and whisk. To the same bowl, add turkey, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to knead ingredients together. Shape into 4 patties about 3/4-inch (2 cm) thick.
Put hamburger buns in oven for 5 minutes, until toasted.
Heat remaining olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Fry burgers for roughly 5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through. One minute before the second side is done, add slices of cheddar. Remove from heat, top with red onion, spread the buns with smoked paprika mayo, assemble burgers, and serve.
Save the extra smoked paprika mayo for dipping your French Fries (see recipe).
